Blending Essential Oils:

There is no wrong way to blend oils but there are a few things to take into consideration when blending your own signature scent. It starts with what you want – in order to handpick the right oils, you need to ask yourself a few questions. Who is this essential oil blend for? What effect do I want it to have? When will it be used? What do your essential oils have to offer? Each essential oil has its own healing properties, lemongrass is energizing and helps treat jet lag, rose is an antidepressant, sweet orange is great for treating dull skin and citronella is commonly known for its insect repellent properties. This is known as therapeutic action.

Essential Oil Categories - When it comes to blending essential oils for aromatic purposes (that means you’re blending based on scent rather than a therapeutic action), it’s important to make sure you find essential oil combinations that complement each other. This is the law of attraction. We recommend blending a maximum of 3 essential oils into your carrier oil, this ratio is dependent on the amount of wax you are using and how strong you want the scent to be.

Instructions:

  1. Before you begin, ensure that the equipment is clean and that no dust or dirt is introduced. Contaminants can cause the candle to burn incorrectly.
  2. Thread your wick through your sustainer, leaving a small frayed end, apply glue/sticky dot to the sustainer and with tweezers stick it to the base of your vessel. For smaller candles stick your wick and sustainer in the middle, for larger candles you can have more than one wick in which case you will stick them in the center. Allow time for this to set.
  3. Add the soy wax to the pot and allow the wax to melt. Stir occasionally, but very gently - over-zealous stirring can introduce air bubbles into the wax. (Measure the temperature of the wax frequently. Getting the wax between 49-82 degrees Celsius is ideal, but you do not want it to get too hot.)
  4. When the wax is completely melted, add the essential oil, stirring carefully with the spatula. Keep stirring until the oil is completely incorporated in the wax, do not leave it on the heat for too long or the essential oil will evaporate.
  5. Carefully pour the wax into your Consol Glass Vintage Tumbler. Re-adjust the wick if required.
  6. Cover the candle with a cloth or box and allow it to cool gradually in a room-temperature area. Avoid dramatic temperature changes, this will prevent the wax from sweating/pulling away from the edges of the glass.
  7. After your candle has cooled, trim the wick to the length of about 1cm. Allow your candle to rest for a few days before burning. This allows for the scent to develop.
